The black and amber was on show in powerful numbers and their sons responded in kind - with a powerful display of football - especially in the second half where they outscored their opponents 1-11 to 1-3 to claim the Connacht junior title.

Minister for Finance and Public Expenditure and Reform Paschal Donohoe presented the second Budget of the Minority Government Fine Gael-Independent Coalition. Minister Donohoe announced that the total Budget package of €1.2bn favours expenditure increases over revenue reductions reflecting the Government’s commitment to invest in key areas such as education, health, childcare and housing. The Minister also announced additional capital expenditure of €4.3bn over the next 4 years.

Tierney is ready to play the captain's part

Having a summer back at home, albeit studying for her final accountancy exams, was a great help to Mayo captain Sarah Tierney who had to head back to Dublin recently for work. But having football to take her mind of the study in the summer was something for which she was grateful. "I was sitting my final acountancy exams in the summer so I was home based which was great during the summer. I'm working in Deloitte in my second year there, it can tough going up and down for training. I found football a great release when I was studying whereas some of the others would have been just studying 12 hours a day."

Despite national recognition of female entrepreneurs, Ireland suffers from a low number of women engaged in business startups. Female-led businesses remain an underdeveloped source of economic growth and jobs. As part of a drive to increase the number of female entrepreneurs in Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, GMIT Innovation Hubs will deliver a new regional programme called "EMPOWER", commencing September in GMIT’s Galway and Mayo campuses.
